A Visit to the Denver Aquarium with the Family

Saturday, June 19, 2021

Recently we got to visit the Denver Aquarium with all out clan!  Instead of smiles we had to do one picture with our best fishy faces out front.

After so long of not getting out for adventures such as this, the kids moods were instantly upbeat and as excited as could be.  The otter family were of course some of our favorites.  They were so playful and lively diving into the water again and again.

My second favorite is the aqua tunnel.  Usually these areas are so packed so I was of course thrilled to find a slower moment to capture this moment of Maribelle with Grandpa.

And of course bestie cousins are so fun! They got a kick out of watching the scuba cleaners do their job.

Have you ever been scuba diving before?  It is different from snokeling pschologically.  If you are not comfortable feeling closed in, in tight spaces and really zen with that, I wouldn't recommend it.  Here in the USA, you take a formal scuba class for a reason.  Anyway,  I had the oppurtunity to check that one off my bucketlist years ago before kids.  We were in Mexico with my parents and went to do a day trip and go scuba diving... well, I remember doing my zen breathing to keep my chill.  I think with higher anxiety now though, it would be much hard to do.  With snorkeling, if you suddenly get feeling buried and claustrophobic with all the stuff on your face and mouth etc, you just lean up and take it off.  When you suddenly realized you are under a LOT of water or fret over something going wrong, it can be stressful.  But it was SUCH a cool experience to be down amung the fish and so close to the ocean floor.  We saw turtles and all kinds of color fish.

I always love the bright and color exhibits put together at aqauriums to really highlight that brillant hues.

Denver Aquarium has this amazing indoor jungle to go and explore and get a glimpse of their tiger.

The fun and the chaos.

After our stroll through the aquarium, we had a nice lunch at the Aquarium Resturant.  You got to eat among the fishes with aquariums that line the wall of the resturant. And up above were all the fun fish light fixtures that were fun to look at.

What a fun color setting for a wedding reception!

Garden of the Gods Adventure

Thursday, February 25, 2021

Recently Matt and I headed down to Colorado Springs for a getaway for my birthday.  We splurged a little and headed to the Broadmore, which has been on my bucket list for a while.  I will share more about our visit there in another post. Anyway, we also planned some fun outdoor time and hit the Garden of God's.  So very cool!  We were here too short of time but enjoyed every second of it.

As a photographer, I obviously wanted to grab some killer shots while their and we had the perfect moment where the sun was out and wrapping around the rocks just perfectly.  The light reflected off some other white rocks nearby and it was perfect.  Five minutes later and the sun changed up.  Just goes to show to grab the opportunity for something before you miss out!

There is this plaque there.  Apparently, someone used to own all this land with these AMAZING rocks!  And then donated it off.  What a cool thing and too cool not to share with the world. A great gift.

Roanoke Island Festival Park Adventure Museum

Wednesday, December 4, 2019

Something about traveling home for Thanksgiving and going to see Frozen 2, then on the flight home doing games in a Worduku book with facts about the Native Americans has got me thinking about the trip we went on in the spring to the Roanoke Island Festival Park Museum in North Carolina. We got to step onto a replica ship and it was all very fun, hands-on for the kids.

Actors sit about to crew the ship and tell you about it in character.  Unless they found a time machine and these guys are legit haha.

Making dinner with kids whining and being wild at my feet is hard enough, try adding a swaying ship! Wonder if they didn't have to stir the soup as much?

A little treasure hunting fun for the kinds.

Some of the marine knots often used.

After we explored around the ship we went back on a trail through the trees to a blacksmith shop and the kids all got a turn to try out a woodworking station too.

Some of the wood pegs they were making as part of the wood demonstration for chair legs, table legs etc.

The boys had fun trying out the armor. Milo's shield was his casted arm!  LOOK OUT! haha.

We let the kids put us in "time out" and they thought that was pretty awesome.

Is it funny I look at these wood bowls and think more about them as a newborn photography prop? I have one similar.  Complete with the crack on the side.

Then there were the longhouses constructed by the Native Americans.

Some examples of a dance circle where the natives would come together from surrounding areas in celebration, victories and religious rituals.

We spent so much time exploring the island we were rushed getting back to the indoor adventure museum part so that was very rushed before they closed.  We could have spent 30 minutes more in there at least.

I love looking at old maps!  The artistry is beautiful to me.

More fun dress up and hands on play.

After the museum, we walked in the quaint little town of Mateo across the bridge and went for dinner. A happy family day well spent.

Maybe one day I will do pictures with a pair of love birds in this little area of Mateo.

For dinner, we went to Ortegez Southwestern Grill. This was a second time here we had previous gone on another trip with some of our college friends. It was delicious.
