Some favorites from the Lewis family! I am trying to keep up with ALL this blogging I have to do best I can!

Location | American Tobacco Campus
This sweet little family chose a fun location! While American Tobacco Campus is no longer used for its original purpose, they left the waterfalls and a unique history behind. I like the color and mix of contemporary urban styles with those historic aspects. Whenever I am out and about location scouting, decaying old prints on the sides of buildings always catch my eye. They always tell a story in and of themselves. When I first came to Durham and was downtown with the family to visit Dames Chicken and Waffles (which is AMAZING btw), I fell in love with the old decorative fish painted on the side of an old building that had seen years of wear and tear. The whole side of the building was this fish design... but they recently have redeveloped the area, so now it under construction! Tear ... tear. Yep I do pout about things I missed out on capturing before they are gone! Like the fall leaves! Autumn family picture season is filling up fast! So that makes me happy because fall is by far my favorite season. Bright colors, crisp cool air, pumpkins, cider...

Ok, so this first image has to be one of my top 10 of the year so far. I just gasped with joy when I caught it. The light was perfect and elegant, and sweet little moments like this one are what make my job the best:) It warms my heart.
Little baby Liam was about 6 weeks when we took these pictures and he was little peach! A little fuzzy sleep peach. Sweet little curious eyes and then after a bit he was just out. Oh to by a newborn baby and get all those naps each day. Gotta love it!
Welcome to the world baby Liam. May many adventures come your way!

North Carolina Beach Photography : Kill Devil Hills Beach House Trip
I love traveling... trying new foods, seeing new places, experiencing different cultures, and I have a lot of those experiences to share! So I will be sharing more of my travels as it as influenced and inspired me as an artist and I hope it will in some way inspire you too, whether you are looking for some fun new places to take a vacation or are already planning one.
In May we had the opportunity to travel with the LDSSA (which stands for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Student Association) of my husbands school to the Outerbanks in North Carolina. It was a blast. Perfect temperature and a reasonable rate for the large group that we were for renting a large beach house. It was one of the largest in Kill Devil Hills available. Who came up with the name "Kill Devils Hills" anyway? My husband and I joked that we might not want to go there as we are coming from Duke, and their mascot is the Blue Devil, so whoever came up with the name must really be a UNC fan. Haha. Anyway, it use to be called Kitty Hawk... the town where the Wright Brothers created the first airplane. But we learned that the title of the town was due to the high winds that could "kill" a devil they were so strong. So ok... I guess they thought the phrase "kitty" in their name didn't put them on the "taken seriously" spectrum enough so they had to come up with something crazy opposite to get attention.
I think we had the pinkest house on the street! PLENTY of room. Really I don't know the next time we will stay in this size of a place until we go back again in May that is... anyway, but after that, unless we have a family reunion or school reunion there really was so much room. A mini theater room, 2 kitchens, several nooks and such for the kids to play in, a game room, a pool and the best part was there was a private boardwalk right out to the beach so we could take morning or evening strolls at our fancy. And the price... manageable. It was just pre-season so warm enough to hop in the pool most of the days but still chilly so we didn't really jump in the ocean at all, which was fine with having our little ones who were more interested in the sand and only dipping toes anyway.
Some of the things that I liked about this beach:
1. It was clean 2. Not very crowded for the time we went 3. A lot of fun little finds for the kids to collect 4. Medium sized waves that I wasn't stressing about the kids being swept away. 5. The time of year we went, the sand wasn't crazy hot! My little ones were content playing in it for hours (btw, I have found that taking a old shower curtain does wonders for making a quick pool that you aren't having to constant refill for the kiddos moats and such. We just bury that into the sand as the base) 6. Picturesque views. Especially with the wood fences lining the beach.
And as many people who know me, one way to my heart is good food! All the girls did an outing and we went to a place called Food Dudes for lunch followed by a little outlet shopping. AMAZING fish tacos. This is been added to my bucket list of domestic goals in the kitchen. Savory. Perfect textures and vibrant flavor. I will try to go again our next visit.
One of the unique stops about Kill Devil Hills is the Sand Dunes. Earlier in the morning before it gets too hot it the best time to go as you want to be able to walk the sand barefoot. After parking and making our way out on the boardwalk to the entrance on the sand, we removed our shoes and step onto the finest sand. I mean, it feels amazing on your feet! So soft and soothing almost. The dunes acquire that fine tune with all the time they spend on land just being rolled about with the wind over the years. We didn't know what to plan for going but brought our boogie board with the hope of doing some kind of sledding down the sand dunes. After a little experimentation we figured the best way was to have a child ride with an adult quickly guiding them down the hill backwards holding the rope.
If you were more adventurous then we were you could go hang gliding off Jockey's Ridge. Maybe someday. I think having kids is adventurous enough for me for now.
A little dream house shopping. I am all for the Pickett fence look.
Nag's head was a quiant stop that I really enjoyed. I would have loved to go a bit earlier in the day to do some antique shopping but what was sweet about window shopping is that several stores had little signs saying that they would send someone over if you wanted to shop and to just call a number. We all stopped at Ortegaz for dinner there. I loved the mango salsa on my Ahi Steak with a crabcake and russet mashed potatoes with grilled vegetables.
Seeing the fishermans catch of the day down at the dock. Nothing like seeing fish being torn open to really shock the little ones:)

Love this family! It is crazy to see home much they have grown over the years. I shot their wedding five years ago and since they have had two more added to the family. I love that they share the sport of soccer together and you can see how it is a fun bonding activity for them. And little Kalia, you have a lot to keep up but come dating years your brothers got yo back!

It is time for me to talk about something that I don't really talk about a lot on this blog... dun dun dun... me! Haha. No but really I think I tend to like living in mystery but it is time to show you all a bit more about who I am, what I love and what makes me me because that is all a part of my brand and my work!
So here it goes. As you can tell already I certainly have a more casual side to me. A little bit of tom-girl rough edge... I mean, I'm all for playing in the mud with my kiddos, but I love things that sparkle too.
I have a LOT of passions. I mean a lot. Photography is obviously up there on the list but really, here is just my short list:
Photography, Film, Editing, Writing, Painting, Cooking, Baking, Gardening, Crafting, Scrap booking, planning parties, traveling, hiking, camping, backpacking, swimming, the outdoors period, kayaking, biking, sculpting, sewing, antique mall shopping, sea shell collecting pintersting....
Yep. I think that is enough for now. Anyway, I love trying out new things too. The hubby and I like to grab some sushi, climb mountains, and just play with the kids who are always cracking us up.
Recently we were out at the Outer Banks in North Carolina for one of our family vacations and my wonderful husband took pictures of me on the beach. He is AMAZING. I mean I woke him up at the crack of dawn to take pictures for me as it is kinda a rare treat to be at the beach and I love the beach. These are his talent at work, and he doesn't give himself enough credit.
My husband Matt and I just celebrated our 9 year anniversary! Can you believe it. And we have two awesome little ones that keep us on our toes. I mean as in turn around two seconds and then BAM, sharpie all over the face... and wall... (she thought it was lipgloss.. haha) Anyway we laugh and love all those funny moments... some of them, well, we eventually love and laugh about.
Anyway, I wouldn't have been able to start this business if it weren't for my hubby! He was a model many times in the beginning and is my partner with the business itself. He contributes so much to its success and has been confident in my skills which has boosted my own confidence over the years too. One thing about starting anything and being successful at it, is encouragement and help from another is always. It is necessary. Together we have had a lot of amazing experiences, traveled.
As an artist, I come from a family of a lot of amazing artists. For example, my brother Justin Clements is a well-known oil painter in Colorado. The talent is widespread too in variety. Costume designs, cartoon art, major crafting skills, film, sculpting etc. Anyway, that is where it all started, but I would say of the arts I love storytelling. Capturing emotion and rare moments that are true memories is priceless. Life is short and the memories fade all too quickly. Just like a fireflies light.
One of my early artistic mentors who simply put a little faith in me, was a Junior High teacher that asked me to make the end-of-the-year graduation video for my school, which involved capturing footage throughout the year and compiling it. Mind you, this is the mini videotape era... which I don't miss. Anyway, that gave a major boost to my already growing love of film and photography and from there it has continued ever since. In 2009, we started the business officially out of our small basement apartment in Salt Lake City and from there have moved and grown. My husband and I did our Undergrads at the University of Utah and there is where I did my BFA with an emphasis in film directing shorts and getting involved with other film projects. In film, I write, direct but love most of all to be behind the camera with cinematography and photography.
After finishing at the U of U, we were in Salt Lake a few more years and are now located in Durham, NC for another year while my hubby finished Grad school and then off to somewhere new... maybe... a bit of mystery on that right now. Life is an adventure and our loved ones are precious. The moments we share are priceless.
